- It can be difficult to tell when a shoe is worn out. Visually it may look spotless but the midsole may have deteriorated. Similarly it may look very worn but still have a lot of life left in it.
- One good measure is to track how many miles you have done in the shoes. Many fitness apps have shoe mileage tracking features. Most everyday road running shoes have a lifespan of around 400-500 miles (650-800 kilometres) as a general rule of thumb. But this is dependent on individual factors (e.g. height, weight, movement style), terrain (e.g. road, gravel, trail) and even weather.
- If you are starting to feel aches and pains when wearing a shoe, this is often a sign that it is time for a new pair. There is nothing worse than getting injured from wearing a worn out shoe as it is an avoidable injury.
