Sports Bras
Despite being an essential piece of kit, research shows between 70-100% of women are not wearing the correct size bra. Poor-fitting bras lead to excessive breast movement which can lead to stretching, irreparable damage and pain.
Move Freely
When considering the effect of a sports bra on your ability to move freely, low levels of support can:
- Lead to inefficient technique and a shorter stride length
- Influence breathing frequency and increase fatigue as the upper body works harder
- Increase ground reaction forces which increases overall injury risk
Sports bras provide support by restricting breast motion during movement which prevents damage to breast structures.
Most breast and bra issues are resolved through education, advice and fitting. So why not book in with one of our knowledgeable and helpful female staff who will gladly help you find the right sports bra for you!
The Right Sports Bra for You
We have a broad selection of sports bras to ensure you find one suitable for you. High-support bras are typically made of nylon and include breast encapsulation through padded cups, an adjustable underband, and a high neckline.
There are three main types of sports bras:
Compression bras – comprise of one strong piece of elastic which compresses the breasts close to the chest to limit movement.
Encapsulation bras – support each breast individually by limiting movement.
Combination bras – combine the characteristics of both.
When fitting your sports bra, consider:
The underband โ provides main breast support and should be level around the chest, not too tight, and not slide during movement
The cups โ enclose the breasts with no gaping or bulging
The straps โ are not too tight and do not dig in with no more than a 5cm stretch
The underwire โ follows the natural crease of the breasts
When the body moves, the breasts move independently. Properly-fitted sports bras improve breast position and spine rotation by repositioning body tissue which increases performance and allows you to move freely.
