On Wednesday I took part in the second race of six in the Clive & Angela Thomas Street 5k Series organised by Wells City Harriers. The races take place on the second Wednesday of each month from October through March. Kinisi Run Hub are proud to be involved as a sponsor. Read Race Review 1 for more info about the series.
There was a much stronger turnout for this month’s race with some talented juniors joining in. It was a very fast start and I got a bit left behind finding myself in about tenth place through the first lap. I made up some places and over the next few laps gradually moved up to fourth place.
As usual the race was fast and hectic. In the first lap you start lapping the children’s races and then after a couple of laps you start lapping some of the 5k runners with it only being a 1k circuit. There were also more cars out this time but luckily the marshals were well positioned and ensured the cars slowed down and stayed out of the way.
On the fifth and final lap I moved into third place overtaking David Awde (Bristol & West AC) and managed to pull away and open up a small gap which I held until the finish. I ran about 15s faster than the first race so was happy with my run as things are moving in the right direction.
There was plenty of depth in this month’s edition of the race series as seven runners broke 16 minutes. The win came down to a photo finish with Tom Webb (Wells City Harriers) just out-dipping Nate Ground (Unattached) with both clocking 15:13. I was third in 15:36. Laura Jones (Taunton AC) won the women’s race in 18:35 with Kate Dobson (Chard RR) second in 18:53 and Hayden Radforth (Unattached) third in 19:18.
A notable shout-out goes to Philip Parry (Bristol & West AC) who set a new MV60 record of 17:45! Congratulations to all 126 finishers. Full results here.
Well done to everyone who raced and thank you to Wells City Harriers for another great event! Iโm looking forward to the next one in December and Kinisi Run Hub are proud to be supporting this great race series.
