On Friday evening we hosted the second event of the Women’s Running Series which involves 3 workshops centred around different topics at our shop. These events are delivered in collaboration with the Bristol Running Show and Claire Callaghan. The second event was all about Women’s Running Injuries.
Claire is a chartered physiotherapist with 25 years of experience specialising inย Sport, Exerciseย andย Female Health.ย She supports women and girls by helping them stay pain free, energised and active. This session focused on the most common women’s running injuries, what to do, what not to do and how to prevent them followed by an open Q&A session.

It was great to welcome such an open and engaged group of local women to our shop and be able to teach them a bit more about women’s specific injuries. Female runners are more likely to suffer from particular hip, pelvic, knee and achilles and heel injuries. There are differences in how they respond to injuries and considerations for their rehab too.
The workshop covered:
- The most common running injuries women suffer from
- Common causes of injury
- What issues females especially have to consider and how can they manage them
- Different considerations and management at different ages and levels of running experience
- The most important exercises and flexibility training for specific injuries
- Myths vs facts – which equipment and taping techniques really makes a difference and what not to do
There were practical demonstrations led by Claire which allowed participants to see exercises, flexibility and performance work in action as well as try them for themselves and get direct feedback.

We were very happy with how the event went because it was such an engaged group of women who valued the workshop and all left with ideas and specific actions to implement into their weekly routines to prevent and treat injuries.
The Women’s Running Series still has one more event coming up hosted by Claire Callaghan which is a session all about Perimenopause and Running on Friday 14th November. In order for us to cover the costs of the event you will need to purchase tickets which you can do here. Meet from 6pm for a 6:30pm start and projected 8pm finish. Drinks and refreshments will be provided.
We are excited the next event and hope to see you there!
