Weston Prom Run Series 3/9 5 Mile Race Review

, ,

On Thursday I raced the third race of nine 5 mile races in the Dave Jones Prom Run Series organised by Weston Athletic Club. These are flat, quick road races along the prom of the Weston-Super-Mare seafront. Kinisi Run Hub are excited to be sponsoring this great series.

On Thursday I raced the third race of nine 5 mile races in the Dave Jones Prom Run Series organised by Weston Athletic Club.

As usual you never know what to expect in terms of the weather in Weston. It could be very windy or only slightly windy! Luckily it was only slightly windy for this race. The temperature was quite mild too which made race conditions very pleasant.

The course is normally two laps out-and-back but due to the Christmas ice skating rink at the Tropicana, the route had to be changed. We did three smaller out-and-back laps. Mentally I found it a bit easier because when it is two laps there are some very long straights but the three laps broke it up far more.

The race started with Adam Holland setting a quick pace. I stayed back a little bit and gradually caught him up through the first lap. As we started the second lap we were running together. At about half way I started to pull away and open up a small gap. I managed to increase this slightly over the third and final lap to take the win.

The men’s podium was Jamie Williamson (Springburn Harriers) in 25:22, Adam Holland (Tavistock AC) in 25:43 and Peter Nimmo (Unattached) in 26:54. Hannah Taunton (Taunton AC) ran 28:26 to win the women’s race ahead of Jessica Heffer (Bristol & West AC) in 30:03 and Alice Murray-Gourlay (Taunton AC) in 30:06. In total there were 241 finishers. Full results here.

The race starts and finishes just outside Revo Kitchen on the seafront where registration and the presentation also take place, Many runners take advantage of this and get a well deserved post-race drink and meal in the restaurant. The prom remains open during the race but there are plenty of marshals on the course to ensure any pedestrians and cyclists are aware of oncoming runners.

Well done to everyone who raced and thank you to Weston AC for organising another great Prom Run! Kinisi Run Hub are proud to be supporting such a great event and I can’t wait for the next one in December!
