Bradley Stoke 10k Race Review

, , ,

On Sunday I raced the Bradley Stoke 10k organised by Sole Sisters Running Club. This was the 20th edition of this great local race held on the edge of Bristol. It is a looped course that starts and finishes at the Jubilee Centre. The race utilises the tracks and footpaths of the Three Brooks Nature Reserve as well as some traffic-free sections of road.

On Sunday I raced the Bradley Stoke 10k organised by Sole Sisters Running Club. This was the 20th edition of this great local race held on the edge of Bristol.

It was a really nice morning for it with the race starting at 9:30am. There were blue skies and the sun was shining but temperatures were fairly mild which made for great racing conditions. As it has been for a few weeks now there was a bit of wind but the course was fairly sheltered.

There was a strong turnout for the race with athletes from many local clubs showing up to race. Looking around at the start there were some familiar faces but I figured it might be a solo run.

It was a very relaxed start as we started off with a lap around the field around the back of the Jubilee Centre. Nobody went off too quickly and once we were around the field and set off onto the trails I found myself out front by myself.

Much of the first 6-7km loops around the Three Brooks Nature Reserve which is nice for spectators as they can stay in the same area and see runners multiple times. The final few kilometres are mainly on the road which makes it easier to keep the pace up on a faster surface as you get tired!

I ended up having a solo run chasing down the lead bike but was happy with my performance and it was definitely a solid run out. I managed to take the win in 31:58 with David Milner (Bristol & West AC) second in 35:48 and Alex Whittaker (Unattached) third in 35:51. The women’s race was won by Debbie Hale (Bitton Road Runners) in 45:09 with Terri May (Unattached) second in 45:45 and Sam Mumford (Great Western Runners) third in 45:59. In total there were 544 finishers. Full results here.

The race HQ is at the Jubilee Centre and then the start/finish behind on the big grass field. The footpaths and roads are open during the race but there are plenty of Sole Sisters RC marshals on the course to ensure any pedestrians, cyclists and cars are aware of oncoming runners.

Well done to everyone who raced and thank you to Sole Sisters Running Club for organising another great Bradley Stoke 10k race!
