On Wednesday I took part in the first race of six in the Clive & Angela Thomas Street 5k Series organised by Wells City Harriers. The races take place on the second Wednesday of each month from October through March. Kinisi Run Hub are proud to be involved as a sponsor of the event.

This series has been going for over 30 years and has produced some quick times over the years. The race takes place around the town of Street and comprises of five 1k laps. It is flat and fast but there are lots of sharp turns to make a square.
There wasn’t a whole lot of time to warm up as registration opened just an hour before the start. By the time I had my number there was only time for a short jog and a few strides and then it was go time.
The race is run on open roads so quite a hectic start to get going while the road is clear and then everyone fighting for position before the first sharp left turn. It never really settles because you have to stay alert for cars, pedestrians and even recycling boxes (bin collection is the next day!). The juniors are set off a few minutes before the seniors so they have to be negotiated as do lapped runners in the later laps of the race. Having to be so alert and concentrating on the next turn means the laps tick by quite quickly.
The course is well marshalled though with plenty of marshals on the corners ensuring any cars and pedestrians are aware of the race taking place.
I very much enjoyed the race and it was great to get a 5k run out on a flat course. It was a home win for Adam Gibson (Wells City Harriers) in 15:50 and I followed him home in 15:54 with Alexander Coombs (Wells City Harriers) finishing third. Laura Jones won the women’s race in 18:27 with Phobe Aspinall finishing second and Abi Bushell in third. Full results here.
Well done to everyone who raced and thank you to Wells City Harriers for a great event! I’m already looking forward to the next one in November!
It was great for Kinisi Run Hub to be able to support the event as a race sponsor and also to have a pop-up shop at the race HQ.
