Trail Season Is Here!

The clocks have changed, the evenings are drawing in, and that unmistakable chill is in the air – but running season is far from over! In fact, this one of the most rewarding times to get out there. Whether it’s the peace of an early morning jog or the energy of a headtorch-lit group run, embracing the darker months can help build consistency and resilience that pays off when spring returns.

These are the miles that matter the most so we’ve got everything you need to stay inspired through the winter season. From gear built for dark runs to local trail events and community runs, we will help you keep moving this winter!

When the pavements turn slick and the motivation dips, trail running can be the reset your running needs.

WHY WINTER IS THE BEST TIME TO HIT THE TRAILS

When the pavements turn slick and the motivation dips, trail running can be the reset your running needs. Swapping tarmac for mud and woodland paths builds strength, improves balance, and brings a bit of adventure back to your weekly miles โ€” just when you need it most.

Hereโ€™s why winter is actually the prime time for getting off-road:

1. Softer ground = happier legs

Winter trails are often damp or muddy, which means less impact on your joints compared to pounding frozen pavements. Itโ€™s a great way to keep mileage up without the wear and tear.

2. Natural strength training

Uneven terrain challenges your stabilising muscles and core with every step. Youโ€™ll notice better balance, coordination, and running economy once spring rolls around.

3. A fresh mental boost

Thereโ€™s something grounding about running through nature โ€” the crunch of leaves, fresh air, and the quiet of a forest trail. Itโ€™s the perfect antidote to the dark, busy city evenings.

4. Bristol has trails everywhere

You donโ€™t have to head deep into the countryside to find great trails. The Downs, Ashton Court, Blaise Castle and Leigh Woods all offer accessible, varied routes right on our doorstep.

5. The right shoes make all the difference

Trail shoes provide grip and confidence on mud, rocks, and gravel. The latest models from Nnormal, VJ and Merrell are built for exactly these conditions โ€” lightweight, protective, and ready for winter miles.

  • NNormal โ€” built for performance and longevity, combining lightweight design with exceptional durability for runners who value simplicity and sustainability.
  • VJ โ€” renowned for unbeatable grip and stability on technical terrain, giving you total confidence in wet and muddy conditions.
  • Merrell โ€” versatile, comfortable, and adventure-ready trail shoes designed for grip, protection, and all-day performance on any terrain.
