Women’s Running Series – Event 3 Perimenopause & Running

, ,

On Friday evening we hosted the third and final event of the Women’s Running Series which involved 3 workshops centred around different topics at our shop. These events were delivered in collaboration with the Bristol Running Show and Claire Callaghan. The third event was all about Perimenopause & Running.

Claire is a chartered physiotherapist with 25 years of experience specialising inย Sport, Exerciseย andย Female Health.ย She supports women and girls by helping them stay pain free, energised and active. This session focused on understanding how perimenopause can impact running, pain, injuries and strength. Claire outlined some top tips and quick wins and ended with an open Q&A.

On Friday evening we hosted the third and final event of the Women's Running Series which involved 3 workshops centred around different topics at our shop. This session focused on Perimenopause & Running.

It was great to welcome such an open and engaged group of local women to our shop and be able to teach them a bit more about a time in life when their bodies undergo significant changes. Claire outlined the most up-to-date and credible information and practical solutions that women need and deserve to know. By understanding how hormones and getting older can impact running and sports performance, the participants left knowing how best to help navigate this impactful stage of life.

The workshop covered:

  • What hormonal changes are happening and how this impacts bones, muscles, tendons, balance and running performance
  • Common running-related pains and injuries during perimenopause
  • How to overcome common aches and pains
  • Essential strengthening exercises for perimenopausal runners which were demonstrated live by Claire
  • The pelvic floor, specifically how running and menopause affect it, why it matters for runners and ways to manage it
  • 5 quick wins to manage fatigue, flushes and flexibility

There were practical demonstrations led by Claire which allowed participants to see exercises live as well as try them for themselves and get direct feedback.

We were very happy with how the event went because it was such an engaged group of women who valued the workshop and all left with ideas and specific action to implement to help them navigate perimenopause.

The Women’s Running Series has come to an end so we want to take a moment to thank everyone who attended for their support. We hope you enjoyed the workshops and found them informative and useful. A big thank you to Claire Callaghan for leading these sessions.

We are excited to continue working with Abichal from the Bristol Running Show to deliver more running workshops in the New Year. Keep an eye out for announcements about future events!
