Street 5k Series 5/6 Race Review

, , ,

On Wednesday I took part in the fifth race of six in the Clive & Angela Thomas Street 5k Series organised by Wells City Harriers. The races take place on the second Wednesday of each month from October through March. Kinisi Run Hub are proud to be involved as a sponsor. Read Race Review 1 for more info about the series.

On Wednesday I took part in the fifth race of six in the Clive & Angela Thomas Street 5k Series organised by Wells City Harriers.

There was a good turnout of runners with a strong field which meant a fast start with lots of runners trying to get out hard for a good position. Almost as soon as we started a car started to come towards us and we had to squeeze into the left lane to avoid getting hit!

I settled in about fifth but about half way around the first lap I moved into third place and then into second place a few meters behind Tom Webb (Wells City Harriers) who started very quick. We ticked off a couple of laps and then Zak Clemens (Unattached) came by and caught up to Tom and ran ahead of me with him. I sat in third place but started to catch up to them over the fourth lap and when we went into the fifth and final lap I overtook them and went into the lead.

I knew they were both younger than me and would have stronger finishes than me (I’m not a sub-4 miler anymore!) so tried to pick up the pace and pull away from them in that final lap to give myself a chance to win. They both held on to me and on the final corner before the finish straight both overtook me and sprinted away.

Tom Webb (Wells City Harriers) won the race in 15:10 followed by Zak Clemens (Unattached) in 15:12 and myself in 15:13. Debra Bruce (Bristol & West AC) won the women’s race in 17:36 with Daisy Davies (Wells City Harriers) second in 18:35 and Annabelle Souter (Tonbridge AC) third in 18:41. Congratulations to all 93 finishers. Full results here.

Well done to everyone who raced and thank you to Wells City Harriers for another great event! Iโ€™m looking forward to the final one in March and Kinisi Run Hub are proud to be supporting this great race series.
