On Thursday I was invited to the AECOM offices at 3 Rivergate in central Bristol to deliver a "From Training to Start Line" workshop for their employees who are getting ready for the upcoming Bristol Half Marathon & 10k. I provided advice and guidance on the final couple of weeks before a race, things to expect and navigate on race day, and finally some race day tips and tricks. Following this a few of us ventured out for a short run!
AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm that provides professional services, including planning, design, engineering, and construction management for public and private clients. They work across sectors like transportation, buildings, water, new energy, and the environment, focusing on delivering sustainable, integrated solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
The session started off with a brief overview about myself and Kinisi Run Hub. Then I got into the session. I led the participants through the final couple of weeks before a race providing an overview of the taper phase, things to bear in mind and common mistakes to avoid. Next I broke down race day including a checklist of last minute essentials, creating a race strategy and developing a strong race mindset. Throughout the session I integrated reflection points and we regularly stopped for discussions.
After the presentation we had an informal Q&A and I got to talk one-on-one with some of the attendees. Around 15 employees attended the workshop which was a great turnout and it makes me really happy to see that so many of their team are taking part in the Bristol Half Marathon & 10k. It was a lovely sunny day so once the workshop was done, a few of us headed out for a relaxed run around the harbour. It was great to learn a bit more about the participants and talk all things running with them.
It always touches me when we are invited to deliver sessions like these as it reminds me we must be doing something right and making an impact in the local Bristol running to be identified as reliable, knowledgeable and trustworthy speakers.
Thank you very much to Hannah for selecting me to deliver the From Training to Start Line workshop and thank you to all the employees from AECOM who attended the event and listened to what I had to say. Good luck at the Bristol Half Marathon & 10k!
