Mother Tuckers 10km Race Review

, ,

On Sunday I took part in the Mother Tuckers 10km organised by Somer Athletic Club. It was the first time the club has organised the event but it had a great turnout and everyone enjoyed it.

This was a mainly an off-road race with a mix of technical terrain and some smooth road running. When I warmed up and ran the first mile of the course which was mainly on road, I didn’t think it was going to be too bad but double checked with a marshal who recommended I wear trail shoes and I’m glad I did!

It was quite rolling with a mix of up and down hill running. There were a couple of big climbs at about 7km and 8km which definitely made a more difficult finish.

We started and finished at the Tucker’s Grave Inn & Campsite which is described as one of Somerset’s hidden gems. The 200-year-old cider house is one of six left standing in the UK and is listed on the National Inventory of Historic Interiors.

The course was well marked and there were plenty of volunteer marshals on the course to guarantee no one got lost. The event raised money for The Bowel Movement charity. All 214 finishers received a goody bag at the end including a Tucker’s Grave Inn & Campsite cider cup.

I managed to take the win in 36:19 with Elliott Avis (Team Bath AC) finishing 2nd in 38:54 and Daryl Emery (Somer AC) just outsprinting his teammate Oliver Aldred (Somer AC) for 3rd in 42:03. Olivia Elliot won the women’s race in 51:02 with Sarah Ford finishing 2nd in 52:46 and Emma Surridge (Frome RC) taking 3rd in 53:00. Full results here.

Well done to everyone who raced and thank you Somer Athletic Club for hosting a great event!
