On Wednesday I took part in the third race of six in the Clive & Angela Thomas Street 5k Series organised by Wells City Harriers. The races take place on the second Wednesday of each month from October through March. Kinisi Run Hub are proud to be involved as a sponsor. Read Race Review 1 for more info about the series.
The turnout was a bit smaller for this race but that was expected given it is getting close to Christmas and the festive season. Despite this we still had a good race!
As usual it was a fairly fast start but due to the smaller field there wasn’t quite as much depth this time which meant the field gradually strung out over the first lap. After about half a lap I found myself at the front. By the end of the first lap I started to pull away. I held my pace and slowly extended my lead over the next four laps.
The roads were a little bit more busy this race with both cars and people. Again because we are getting close to Christmas many more people are out shopping so given the fact that Street is a outlet village it was unsurprising that there was a bit more activity in the streets.
The marshals did a great job making sure all pedestrians and drivers were aware of the race taking place and no-one’s race was seriously impeded. I had to stop a couple of times for cars but better to be safe than sorry!
I manage to solo run a 15:39 for the win which I was relatively happy with given how training and racing have been progressing. Oskar Beck (Wells City Harriers) was second in 16:03 and Alexander Coombs (Wells City Harriers) was third in 16:06. Daisy Davis (Wells City Harriers) won the women’s race in 19:13 with Louisa Saunders (Wells City Harriers) second in 20:19 and Hazel Shears (Langport Runners) third in 22:21. Congratulations to all 69 finishers. Full results here.
Well done to everyone who raced and thank you to Wells City Harriers for another great event! Iโm looking forward to the next one in December and Kinisi Run Hub are proud to be supporting this great race series.
If you would like to take part in the fourth race in the Street 5k Series in January, entries are open here.
